In The Edge of Things staat de volgende generatie danskunstenaars volledig in de schijnwerpers. Ethan Colangelo creëert voor het eerst een wereldpremière voor NDT 2. NDT’s nieuwe associate choreograaf Jermaine Spivey verlegt in zijn nieuwe creatie de grenzen van dansers en publiek met zijn talent voor improvisatie, spontaniteit en structuur. Tot slot wordt het geliefde, humoristische en absurdistische FIT (2018) van Alexander Ekman opnieuw gedanst.

Ethan Colangelo - Wereldpremière
Choreograaf Ethan Colangelo is een nieuwe, spannende stem voor NDT. In zijn werk is Colangelo gefascineerd door contrasten in ons zijn: hoe we ons rusteloos maar zielsgelukkig kunnen voelen of hoe innerlijke verstilling botst met chaos. Zo creëert hij werken die zowel ongepolijst als verfijnd zijn. Hoewel Colangelo’s artistieke taal sterk verbonden is met hedendaagse dans, zie je dat hij geïnspireerd is door urban dansstijlen en deze slim met elkaar verweeft. NDT is trots om Colangelo te verwelkomen bij NDT 2 en kijkt ernaar uit om zijn wereldpremière te delen.

Jermaine Spivey - Wereldpremière
Het eerste werk dat de nieuwe associate choreograaf Jermaine Spivey voor NDT 2 maakte was in 2022 bij Up & Coming Choreographers; het platform voor opkomende makers in samenwerking met Korzo. Dit evolueerde later in het intrigerende Codes of Conduct (2023). Spivey staat bekend om zijn grensverleggende werkwijze, waarbij hij zowel dansers als publiek uitdaagt om dans op een andere manier te bekijken. In zijn creatieproces combineert hij structuur met spontaniteit en gebruikt hij veel improvisatie om tot vrije, vernieuwende ideeën te komen. Dit nieuwe werk belooft een verrassende kant van de NDT 2-dansers te onthullen en houdt je ongetwijfeld tot de laatste seconde in zijn greep.

Alexander Ekman - FIT
'Voor mij is een 'fit' een vorm van harmonie… een gevoel van rust dat alles klopt.' Alexander Ekman. Ekmans FIT (2018) is een speelse en energieke verkenning van wat het betekent als iets ‘past’: wat gebeurt er als alles in ons leven op zijn plek valt en wat als dit juist niet zo is? Op de swingende klanken van The Dave Brubeck Quartets Take Five komt deze bruisende choreografie tot leven met opvallende kostuums en Ekmans kenmerkende humor, intelligentie en absurditeit. FIT is een feest voor de zintuigen en NDT verheugt zich erop om zijn werk weer te dansen.

NDT 2 is ook te zien op zaterdag 4 april met I Dreamt, It Was.

Ethan Colangelo - World premiere
Choreographer Ethan Colangelo is an exciting new voice to NDT. In his work, Colangelo is fascinated by the interplay of contrasting emotional and physical states - where restlessness meets exhilaration and stillness collides with disorder. Through this exploration, he creates movement that is both raw and refined. While Colangelo’s artistic voice is deeply rooted in contemporary dance, you’ll see how he skillfully combines it with urban dance styles. NDT Is thrilled to welcome Colangelo to NDT 2 and share this world premiere.

World premiere - Jermaine Spivey
Jermaine Spivey first joined NDT’s and Korzo’s platform for emerging makers Up & Coming Choreographers in 2022, creating a work that later evolved into the captivating Codes of Conduct (2023). Now, as NDT's associate choreographer, he returns with a highly anticipated world premiere. Spivey is renowned for pushing boundaries, challenging both dancers and audiences to experience movement in new ways. His creative process blends structure with spontaneity, using improvisation to spark new, innovative ideas. His world premiere promises to surprise, bringing out a fresh and unexpected side of the NDT 2 dancers that will have you entranced.

FIT - Alexander Ekman

Ekman’s FIT (2018) is a playful and dynamic exploration of what it truly means to 'fit in' - what happens when the pieces of life’s puzzle align, and what unfolds when they don’t. Set to The Dave Brubeck Quartet’s swinging Take Five, this full-company work bursts with energy, bold costumes, and Ekman’s signature humour, wit, and absurdity. Visually striking and thought-provoking, FIT is a feast for the senses and NDT Is excited to bring it back to the stage.
