Introdans presenteert elk voorjaar het werk van één choreograaf in een focusprogramma. In 2026 staat de toonaangevende choreograaf Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui centraal. Larbi is een verkenningstocht van Cherkaoui’s signatuur als maker. Maar ook een ode aan de veerkracht.

De virtuoze danstaal van Cherkaoui, zijn muzikaliteit en lef om te verstillen, passen goed bij Introdans. Zijn veelzijdige en vaak poëtische manier van werken resoneert van Arnhem tot Los Angeles. Ook internationale grootheden als Beyonce en Madonna werken graag samen met deze Vlaams-Marokkaanse topchoreograaf.

De avond bevat de balletten Fall, In Memoriam en een goednieuwe solo voor danser Marc Brew, waar Larbi eerder mee samenwerkte voor de solo Crash. Speciaal voor het focusprogramma werkt Cherkaoui voor Introdans aan een nieuwe versie van Fall.

‘Wij spreken dezelfde (dans)taal. Dat is de kern van de samenwerking met Larbi. Met zeven van zijn choreografieën op ons repertoire is het de hoogste tijd om hem in de schijnwerpers te zetten’, aldus Artistiek directeur Roel Voorintholt.

Fall
Fall verwijst zowel naar de vallende en verkleurende herfstbladeren als naar het continue gevecht van het (dansers)lichaam met de zwaartekracht. Cherkaoui creëert in dit stuk vederlichte duetten en groepsstukken van formaat. Op meditatieve muziek van Arvo Pärt boetseert hij als een beeldhouwer met de dansers. Deze choreografie uit het repertoire van Introdans is een viering van pure dans.

In Memoriam
Dit hedendaagse meesterwerk over verlies en herinnering is intens. Het is een eerbetoon aan de voorouders van de choreograaf. De ruisende rokken en de voortsnellende videobeelden stuwen de dansers voort in deze meditatieve voorstelling.

Nieuwe solo
Voor danser/choreograaf Marc Brew veranderde een auto-ongeluk in een splitsecond zijn leven radicaal. Hoe dans je verder, als je lichaam uit balans is? Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui creëerde eerder de solo Crash waarin Brew op eigen wijze zijn veerkracht toonde. Voor dit programma maakt hij een gloednieuwe solo speciaal voor Marc Brew.

Over de choreograaf
Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui slaagt er als geen ander in om beladen thema’s als anders-zijn, collectiviteit, de zoektocht naar identiteit, geloof en verlangen in indrukwekkende verhalen te vatten, verbeeld in een poëtische en niet zelden hypnotiserende dansstijl. Hij verbindt tal van dansvormen met elkaar. Cherkaoui werkte voor tal van gerenommeerde dansgezelschappen en theaters over de hele wereld.

Introdans is ook te zien op woensdag 26 november en woensdag 25 februari.

Each spring, Introdans presents the work of a single choreographer in a special focus programme. In 2026, the spotlight is on leading choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Larbi is an exploration of Cherkaoui’s signature as a creator - but also an ode to resilience.

His virtuosic dance language, musicality, and boldness to embrace stillness are a natural fit with Introdans. His versatile and often poetic way of working resonates from Arnhem to Los Angeles. International icons like Beyoncé and Madonna have also collaborated with this Flemish-Moroccan top choreographer.

The evening features the ballets Fall, In Memoriam, and a brand-new solo for dancer Marc Brew, with whom Larbi previously collaborated on the solo Crash. Especially for the focus programme, Cherkaoui is creating a new version of Fall for Introdans.

'We speak the same (dance) language. That’s the essence of our collaboration with Larbi. With seven of his choreographies already in our repertoire, it’s high time to put him in the spotlight,'- says Artistic Director Roel Voorintholt.

Fall
Fall refers both to the falling and changing autumn leaves and to the ongoing struggle of the (dancer’s) body with gravity. In this piece, Cherkaoui creates featherlight duets alongside large-scale group sections. Set to meditative music by Arvo Pärt, he sculpts with the dancers as if they were clay. This choreography from the Introdans repertoire is a celebration of pure dance.

In Memoriam
This contemporary masterpiece about loss and remembrance is intense. It serves as a tribute to the choreographer’s ancestors. Rustling skirts and fast-paced video projections drive the dancers forward in this meditative performance.

New solo
For dancer/choreographer Marc Brew, a car accident radically changed his life in a split second. How do you continue to dance when your body is out of balance? Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui previously created the solo Crash, in which Brew expressed his resilience in his own unique way. For this programme, Cherkaoui is creating a brand-new solo especially for Marc Brew.

Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is unmatched in his ability to translate powerful themes such as otherness, collectivity, the search for identity, faith, and longing into compelling stories - all expressed through a poetic and often hypnotic dance style. He weaves together a wide range of dance forms and has created works for numerous renowned dance companies and theatres around the world.
